Attraverso le tracce lasciate sulla spiaggia dalla Caretta Caretta è stato scovato il luogo della deposizione. Si tratta del secondo nido scoperto nel mese di luglio lungo il litorale saccense.
Ad accorgesi della prima deposizione, nei pressi dello stabilimento balneare Aloha, era stato un operatore ecologico in servizio con mezzo meccanico. Questa volta è stato il turista Stefano Biazzi a riconoscere le tracce della testuggine e ad individuare il secondo nido, posizionato, questa volta, più lontano da insediamenti umani, nel tratto di spiaggia compreso tra Capo San Marco e Maragani.
Il ragazzo ha subito allertato il WWF e sono corsi sul posto il volontario Fabio Mazzotta e l’operatore del progetto Euroturtles Dylan Pelletti. Aiutati da altri collaboratori, hanno messo in sicurezza l’area, recintandola. Intervenuta anche la Guardia Costiera ed informati gli altri enti preposti.
Il nido – fanno sapere dal WWF – sembra posizionato in una zona favorevole alla maturazione delle uova che dovrebbero schiudersi dopo circa 60 giorni, ovvero da metà settembre. Fino ad allora i volontari vigileranno per la salvaguardia del nido, in attesa della nascita delle tartarughine che, una volta divenute adulte, probabilmente torneranno a nidificare lì dove sono nate, confermando, ancora una volta, la spiaggia di Capo San Marco tra i luoghi prediletti per la riproduzione e conservazione della specie Caretta Caretta.
