che nei giorni scorsi ha salvato una cinquantina di migranti in acque internazionali di competenza maltese. Ieri sera, nell'atrio superiore del palazzo municipale di Sciacca, è stata l'amministrazione comunale a conferire un pubblico riconoscimento per l'azione di grande coraggio e l'alto senso di umanità dimostrati in occasione delle operazioni di soccorso che hanno consentito di evitare l'ennesima tragedia del mare. E' stato il sindaco Francesca Valenti a spiegare le ragioni per le quali l'amministrazione ha deciso di conferire il riconoscimento nell'ambito di una iniziativa dedicata allo scrittore Primo Levi nel centenario della sua nascita.
Ieri mattina, invece, il comandante Carlo Giarratano e i membri dell'equipaggio del peschereccio “Accursio Giarratano”, Giuseppe Vitale, Vincenzo Dimino, Vincenzo Lombardo e Calogero Scaduto, hanno ricevuto un encomio solenne all'Assemblea Regionale Siciliana, su iniziativa del presidente dell'Ars Gianfranco Miccichè e della presidente della commissione Salute Margherita La Rocca Ruvolo. Per la parlamentare regionale Eleonora Lo Curto, capitano e membri dell'equipaggio del motopesca “Giarratano” meritano di essere insigniti del titolo di “Cavalieri dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana”. Per il comandante Carlo Giarratano, inoltre, è già pronta la cittadinanza onororaria del Comune di Palermo. Lo ha deciso il sindaco Leoluca Orlando e si attende di conoscere soltanto la data della cerimonia di conferimento.
