al quale era stata affidata per la sua riabilitazione.
Marevivo ritorna ad appropriarsi del suo impegno, scendendo in campo per la difesa del mare e lo ha fatto con i suoi giovani volontari che, fin dalle primissime ore del mattino hanno proceduto ad un’azione di monitoraggio della spiaggia e delle dune di Eraclea Minoa per verificare la presenza di nidi di tartarughe e del fratino, piccolo trampoliere anch’esso a rischio d’estinzione.
Purtroppo spesso, a causa della disattenzione e di una scarsa informazione, questi nidi finiscono per essere danneggiati dai predatori, dal calpestio dei bagnanti, ma anche dalle piogge e dall'abbassamento delle temperature, con il rischio di compromissione della schiusa e della continuità della specie.La rilevazione consente di segnalare la deposizione e avviare il processo di sorveglianza dei nidi, per la loro salvaguardia e tutela.
Ma l’attività dei volontari è andata oltre perché è stata effettuata anche un’attenta pulizia della spiaggia, con la raccolta differenziata di oltre 30 sacchi contenenti ogni tipo di rifiuto: polistirolo, vetro, plastica.
Un tratto quello di Eraclea Minoa, sicuramente tra i più belli della costa agrigentina, negli ultimi anni interessato una devastante erosione che ha letteralmente inghiottito le dune e la fascia boschiva limitrofa, con gravi danni ambientali ed economici.I lavori di ripascimento e salvaguardia delle coste, già finanziati, dovrebbero iniziare a breve, ma intanto le continue mareggiate restituiscono tutto quello che con estrema leggerezza viene abbandonato nell’ambiente. Grande emozione per i volontari e il pubblico, la cui partecipazione è stata limitata per ragioni di sicurezza, al momento della liberazione del bellissimo esemplare di Caretta caretta, coordinata dall’Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sicilia e battezzata col nome “Isabella” in onore della più piccola ospite della giornata che per la prima volta ha potuto vedere da vicino una tartaruga marina e apprendere come l’opera dell’uomo possa essere benevola e non solo distruttiva.
