Un cortometraggio drammatico il cui cast è composto da professionisti, talvolta vincitori di diversi festival, reclutati in giro per l’Italia. Il soggetto, la sceneggiatura e la produzione sono di Emanuela di Mattia. Gli attori: Enrico Sortino, Lucia Fossi, Lorena Scintu Piana, Fausto Morciano, Vinicio Fagioli, Fabiola Biancospino ed anche il saccense Nicola Puleo. Nel cast, oltre a Puleo, compaiono, infatti, diversi nomi di Sciacca : Giuseppe Campo che ha curato la fotografia; Nino Sabella - aiuto regia e montatore ed il maestro Accursio Antonio Cortese, autore delle musiche originali.
Si tratta di un corto liberamente ispirato ai dipinti di Edward Hopper, pittore statunitense degli anni ‘40 e ‘50. Una storia in cui predominano la solitudine e l'attesa in una sorta di quieta disperazione e lotta tra sentimenti contrastanti. “Il rumore del silenzio” esprime l’immobilità, il silenzio, l'incomunicabilità dell'individuo. Personaggi in attesa, bloccati nell’istante quotidiano. Tutto ruota all’interno di un locale, un Bistrot, quasi una seconda casa per coloro che lo frequentano abitualmente o soltanto per un fugace caffè. Cesare il barman, a volte diventa un amico, un confidente e il locale stesso diventa un appuntamento fisso, un momento di fuga dal quotidiano. Beniamino, Il Fotoreporter Germano, Alice e Carmen rappresentano idealmente il fallimento di una generazione e della società contemporanea. Soltanto Carmen, riuscirà a dare un senso alla propria esistenza attraverso la musica del suo sax.
Tra una scena e l’altra, è possibile individuare chiari riferimenti ad alcune opere di Hopper: SOLE MATTUTINO, UNA DONNA AL SOLE, ESCURSIONE NELLA FILOSOFIA, NOTTAMBULI, degli sli spunti che Navarra ha utilizzato per raccontare una storia. “Il rumore del silenzio”, come spiega Vincent Navarra, non vuole essere solo una rappresentazione evocativa dei quadri di Hopper, tantomeno una ricostruzione storica dell'America dei suoi anni, piuttosto, una decontestualizzazione in un luogo ed in un tempo imprecisato, probabilmente in una contemporaneità, che evidenzia ancora oggi il buio esistenziale espresso da Hopper. Come lo stesso regista ha dichiarato “Il Rumore del silenzio” rappresenta la sintesi del suo percorso di artista tra pittura e scrittura.
Vincent Navarra, infatti, dopo gli studi in Scenografia si è dedicato al teatro, alla critica d’arte e al cinema. Ha interpretato un ruolo da attore nel film "L'uomo delle stelle" di Giuseppe Tornatore; come critico d'arte ha pubblicato diversi volumi tra cui l'ultimo "Ars Mirabilis”; nel 2007 ha esordito come regista nel cortometraggio "Lacrima Nera", in concorso al David di Donatello ed infine "Rayana" è stato il suo primo lungometraggio.
Adesso, giovedì 4 Luglio, debutterà questo suo ultimo lavoro a Tivoli. Non verrà solo proiettato: previsto un incontro con il cast moderato dallo scrittore Andrea Giuseppe Graziano, in attesa che il cortometraggio giri per i festival approdando, perché no, magari anche a Sciacca.
